Generation Alpha
by Gorb inbeing generation x myself, with 2 teenagers in generation alpha, i see a lot difference between generations.. generation alpha has totaly different views.
my first reaction at home about the current conflict between gaza and israel made this clear.. what an automatic reaction is for a generation x is a disaster for generation a.. result was my first shock about myself, generation x. do i see the global and local issues still clear?!?
why became my teenagers so wise persons with a more balanced world view?

The August 2024 Watchtower controversy and potential further changes
by ukpimo inas an educated guess, the august 2024 watchtower may be delayed because 2 complicated subjects need to be discussed in this issue which haven't yet been approved to be included in the revised shepherding textbook.
perhaps the revised shepherding textbook must be finalised before this watchtower is released publicly.. the 2 subjects may be as follows:.
how to shepherd and appoint brothers based on the removal of the hour requirements, getting to know the brothers instead (does this mean prioritising appointing men who have auxiliary pioneered during the co visit and campaigns or men who are regular pioneers?).

There have been a lot of changes for the average dub to process recently. Some will have embraced the changes, others not so much.
Maybe this wt will be about putting out fires and attempting to provide clarity as there must be quite a few confused JW's out there right now.

Consequences for actions. A high fat / sugary diet
by joe134cd ini want to illustrate my point about where many x-jws go wrong.
to illustrate, imagine a morbidly obese person goes on a calorie restricted diet.
subsequently he loses the excess calories and his health improves.

One of the mind games that the org uses is to make the JW's believe that only 'worldy' people have normal human problems. The fact is that cheaters, sex-fiends, alcoholics, drug users, wife-bashers, child abusers, mental illness and more exist in the org, as they do in the rest of society. However there are many, many 'worldy' people that are serious about being good parents, and generous, responsible, trustworthy people.
Living a good life is its own reward. Its about balance, self-control and purpose. You can find those things outside of organised religion.

Who Was The Biggest Jackass Circuit Overseer You Ever Met?

In the 80's in Australia, we had Vincent Toole as C.O. As a kid, I thought he was ok - but then again- kids are idiots.
During the ARC he came across as a bit vain and out of touch.

First video from the convention is all about FEAR
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/cdzydtuoblw?si=tyr8hgdgaiyn7c4h.
this was leaked only few days ago and it's a small segment of the video from the 2024 convention that has already started.
the video shows a jw logo down while worried jws are watching it as a news item on their tv screens, others are seen hiding from the police, others driving is the countryside to escape the authorities.

Yes , and Im sure the multiple telephone calls they are using to co-ordinate their getaway cant be tracked.

The snake of Genesis 3:1
by Halcon inwe've got some really knowledgeable members on here so i have a question for them and everybody.
what was the earliest adjective used to describe the snake of genesis 3:1?
currently one can read words in english translations like 'cunning' and 'crafty'....but in other languages you see words like 'wise' and astute...which convey a completely different idea.. i'm wondering what may have been the earliest and most accurate adjective known or used.

Diogenesist
Because - well - the snake was right. "In that day" they absolutely did not die, they died much, much later. And they did afterward know right from wrong, or good from bad.🤷🏼♀️Also, God placed an angel to the east of the garden so they couldn't get to the tree of life and therefore keep living. If a second tree existed, and it granted immortality, how was the serpent to know God would prevent Adam and Eve from accessing it?

Just had a thought…
by Vidiot ini been reading quite a few experiences on reddit lately, and their seems to be a common theme coming up….
…dialed-up-to-eleven shunning of xjws by their witness relatives.. it reminds me of back in the day, listening to some of the over-the-top vitriol displayed by hard-core loyalists when the topic of evolution or apostates came up….
…i was gobsmacked when i finally realized these guys weren’t offended and indignant because they thought it was lies….

There is possibly some truth to most religious beliefs including JWs. I also feel many benefits to being part of a community even if you don’t necessarily believe it there are still benefitsBelonging to a group is why people join churches, gyms, clubs etc. Its a very human thing to want support and hang out with like-minded people. And there wouldnt be anything wrong with it except that groups like JW's are toxic and have become more cult-like especially in the last 20 years.
After the generation doctrine failed, they had a chance to back off, swallow some humble pie and re-assess, but they did the opposite, going so far as to invent new words to describe what a generation is.
A lot of humans just want to believe in something - anything - that gives them some comfort and peace regarding death. That is normal and most people are happy to let others believe what they want. Then you have JW's that cant leave people alone and expect everyone else to question everything they have ever been taught, cut ties with family and friends and stop all the activities they have enjoyed as family traditions for generations. If a person fails to accomplish that incredibly difficult, life-changing process of changing belief systems and shunning their family, then they are not worthy of life.
Just dont expect JW's to apply the same critical thinking to their own beliefs.

Solar Eclipse - How Common is It?
by Sea Breeze inof the 213 moons in our solar system, only ours provides a total solar eclipse.. coincidence?.
-
joey jojo
I've been following this discussion and I'm still trying to figure out exactly why Seabreeze, you chose this particular curiosity of the solar system as significant from others?
As others here have pointed out, the solar system is full of quirks and notable unique differences. The moon just happens to be the right size and distance so that when viewed from the earth, the moon and the sun appear to be about the same size. That's it.
The moon is only the fifth largest moon in the solar system. Something like three of Jupiter's moons are bigger than the planet Mercury and would be considered planets in their own right if they weren't moons. The four big moons of Jupiter are all unique and interesting.

So Let's Say Bigger Change Happens
by peacefulpete inif a change in the blood policy happens, who will be more upset, jws or former jws?
i suspect the latter.
when the beard thing went down, jw's seem to immediately embrace it, whereas many former jw's have been brooding about it.. did it take away a pet gripe we had?.

I don't envy their present confusion, nor losing their sense of being "special" amongst other religions.
JW's have always relished the belief that they alone possess secret knowledge that can save humanity. In the internet age, it has become apparent that the biggest secret they possess is how many CSA offenders they are hiding.

JW's in the Hot Seat in Czech Republic
by Sea Breeze inlooks like things are heating up in the czech republic over the horrifying practice of shunning children that ask the "wrong" questions.
kids now days have access to all of the watchtower's lies, manipulations, unnecessary deaths, flip flops, rejection of jesus as mediator etc, etc.
i predict this issue of shunning children will continue to threaten free government money that the wt receives.

This is why I wonder if the GB will continue to introduce sweeping changes to the org.
Were the recent changes simply a smokescreen to JW's in order to slide in the change to practises surrounding disfellowshipping and butter up Norway and by extension the EU?
Its going to be interesting to see what happens next.
